Big Chill Festival 2010

ChamSys has had a long association with Big Chill - this being the 7th year that the festival has used ChamSys MagicQ consoles.  Big Chill saw a major change in management this year with Festival Republic buying out the festival and changing many of the longstanding suppliers.  However ChamSys relationship with the festvial remained, with ChamSys lighting consoles on seven different stages including the Revellers Stage, Chill X, Clash Stage, Lazyland, Paradiso, Star Burst and the Deriliction Drive In.  Lighting was supplied by Color Sound Experiment.

On the Revellers Stage, an MQ300 Pro 2010 Execute console controlled a variety of different kit including everything from Clay Paky Spots and Washes to Studi Duo CS4s.  Marc Callaghan and Mark Jones programmed the rig and looked after the incoming LDs.

Kruder and Dorfmeister LD Gerd was extreemly pleased to find a MQ300 - MagicQ being his console of choice.  This was Gerds first chance to try out the new MagicQ FX engine and it proved a resounding success. It includes many new exciting features including new pulse width FX, new direction options and improved smoothness on Speed Masters.

The Paradiso Tent hosted a sucession of DJ sets and was rammed from start to finish.  Dan and Dave shared the operating duties with control consisting of a MQ100 with an external touch screen.  The external touch screen was set up with an Execute Window consisting of different Cues and Palettes giving them a huge range of options allowing them to follow the mood of the music closely.

Chill X provided an eclectic mix of cabaret acts ranging from the downright wierd to downright strange.  A MagicQ MQ100 and Playback Wing provided the control providing the operators with a chance to follow the very unpredictable action.

Cubes Concept installed an installation cosisting of over a hundred water ballast tanks each containing a RGB fixture.  Cubes Concept have customised an old minibus as the control point, complete with blacked out windows, fridge and music relay system.  Inside, the control system consisted of a MagicQ Mini Wing and a MagicQ Extra Wing connected to a PC. The Cubes system ran throughout the nightime hours - initially lighting up the Starburst Stage and then after midnight changing into a Silent Disco.  Lighting up the Silent Disco proves an interesting experience - two different DJs playing completely different music with different sections of the crowd reacting to the different beats.  The lighting operator can choose which they light depending on how they feel!
